There are so many places worthy of a visit around this area that to include them all would make this page far too long, so included here are a selected few.
Applecross is reached by going over the Bealach na Bá - a pass that rises over 2000ft (the greatest ascent of any road climb in the UK) and Loch Torridon is a few miles further up the coast.
Plockton is a delightful village on the shore opposite the Cottage and is just under 25 miles round Loch Carron. Plockton is famous, amongst other things, for being the place where the BBC series 'Hamish MacBeth' was set and filmed. Behind Plockton is a beautiful little cove called Coral Beach, so named because the beach is made from small pieces of coral.
Glenelg can be reached via Skye and the Glenelg Ferry or via the shores of Loch Duich on the mainland - either route has stunning views. The Brochs were built centuries ago by the Picts and the two at Glenelg are fine examples.
Eilean Donan Castle is an iconic landmark in this part of Scotland.
The Isle of Skye is worthy of its own section. The bridge to Skye, at Kyle of Lochalsh, is around 28 miles from the Cottage and the island itself is around 70 miles from end to end. Here are just a few of the highlights of this fascinating and beautiful island.
Just between Skye and the mainland is the island of Raasay (reached by ferry from Skye). It is a bit of a trek round from Ardaneaskan, but well worth a day-trip.
